Daytona Clash Pre-race Notes
Denny Hamlin started in the rear of the field in a backup car.
Chase Elliott started in the rear of the field in a backup car.
The race was scheduled to be 75 laps long. Stage #1 was 25 laps, and the second Stage was the remainder of the race. The race was rain shortened and it also had 2 cautions for rain in the middle of it.
Daytona Clash Notes
Paul Menard drew the pole and he selected to start in the low-line.
Kyle Busch who started 2nd in the high-line led the opening lap.
On lap 2, Paul Menard took the lead. He then led the next 23 laps.
Very early on the race took on a single file complexion. Whenever a driver stepped out of line they dropped to the back pretty quickly.
On lap 3, Kyle Busch was back to 8th.

On lap 8, the first caution came out for rain.
During a rain interview, Brad Keselowski who was running in 2nd said his car was strong.
Kyle Busch said he had a pretty good car during a rain interview. He said his car was pretty stable.
During a rain interview, Martin Truex Jr. said his car felt good and it feels like there was a lot of speed in it.

On lap 25 the final lap of Stage #1, everybody but Austin Dillon, Alex Bowman, Jamie McMurray, Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr. came to pit road. This allowed Austin Dillon to lead 3 laps.

Notable Moment: Aric Almirola was caught speeding during the Stage #1 caution.
Notable Moment: Daniel Suarez’s team went over the wall too soon and he was penalized during the Stage #1 caution.
During the Stage #1 caution, the drivers who stayed out under green at the end of the Stage came to pit road.

On lap 41, a caution came out for rain again.

Around lap 51, Joey Logano started to work with Ryan Blaney and Kevin Harvick and they were making moves using the low-line. Prior to this nobody had success using that lane.

On lap 55, the Penske cars were all lined up running the low-line together. They were making their way to the front.

Big Moment: On lap 55, Jimmie Johnson tried to duck below Paul Menard but they had contact and it led to a huge multi-car wreck. Drivers collected in it were the 2,3,4,6,9,10,11,14,18,19,20,21,40,41,42 and 88.
Only three drivers weren’t involved in the “Big One” and they were … Kurt Busch, Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano.
Big Moment: During the caution for the “Big One”, the rain fell and it marked the end of the race.
