Asterisk Mark Report – Phoenix Fall 2019
Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott had a great car last fall at Phoenix and was a top five contender, but if you just look at his 39th place finish you would never know it. “Performance Wise”, Elliott was clearly a top five contender. In the race he finished 2nd in Stage #1, 3rd in Stage #2 but on lap 166 while he was running in 3rd he had a tire go down and backed his car into the wall which marked the end of his race.
Joey Logano – Joey Logano had a stellar car last fall at Phoenix, but finished 9th when the checkered flag waved. That’s a respectable result, but I think it’s misleading. In the race he led 93 laps, finished 4th in Stage #1 and won Stage #2. For whatever reason in the last Stage some air pressure adjustment took his car from being a winning car, to a car that couldn’t stay on the lead lap and was the tightest thing he ever driven.
John Hunter Nemechek – John Hunter Nemechek finished 27th last fall at Phoenix, but its important to note he was slightly better than his result. With 8 laps to go while he was running in 24th he got into the wall hard and brought out a caution. His average running position for the afternoon was 25.3.
