Phoenix NASCAR Practice #1 Notes
Kyle Busch – He had a little bit of a delay getting out on the track because his team swapped in a different oil tank. He got out on the track somewhere around 20 minutes into practice and his opening run jumped him to 2nd on the speed chart. 30 minutes into practice his five lap average ranked as the 2nd best.

Martin Truex Jr. – He was parked for the final 30 minutes of practice as a penalty stemming from inspection at Auto Club. When he ended the session he was 24th on the speed chart. His five lap average at that time was 21st. During a late run he told his team that his car wouldn’t turn and it went straight. He had a punctured tire.
William Byron – Ten minutes into practice while he was 7th after running ten laps he reported that his car is a little on the tight side. 20 minutes into practice while he was 10th he scrapped the wall with his right rear. 40 minutes into practice his five lap average ranked as the 7th best. Late in the session when he did a mock qualifying run he jumped to the top of the speed chart. William Byron said he was about p-10 good in race trim. He seemed to like his car.
Austin Dillon – 5 minutes into practice while he was 14th the early report on his car was that he was chattering tires in turns 1 and 2 but turns 3 and 4 it feels really good. 20 minutes into practice while he was 24th he said he needs the front end to be more free thru the middle.
Chase Elliott – His car showed really good speed at the start of the session. Fifteen minutes into practice while he was first he said his car is a little edgier then he’d like it to be. 30 minutes into practice his five lap average ranked as the best. 40 minutes into practice he didn’t like the consistency with how his car drove. Jeff Gordon liked his speed.
