Charlotte Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions and The Low Tier
Austin Dillon – Austin Dillon has previously snuck in a Charlotte Coca Cola 600 win, but don’t set expectations high. Minus his win which was fuel mileage related, all of his other Charlotte results since fall 2016 are outside the top 15. Currently, Dillon has back to back 34th place finishes. Last year in the Coca Cola 600, Dillon crashed and finished 34th. At the time of his demise on lap 316 he was running around the high-teens. In 2018, Austin Dillon had a tough evening and finished a misleading 34th. On lap 36 he got into the wall and then a lap later his tire went down and he brought out the first caution. At the time of his problem he was running in 16th. Later he went to the garage. In fall 2017, Dillon had a 12th place average running position and finished 16th. I will note he was slightly better than his result. While he was running in 11th with 17 laps to go he made an unexpected pit stop. In spring 2017, Dillon raced his way to victory lane, but don’t be fooled because he certainly wasn’t that good. It was a fuel mileage win, but realistically I thought he was low-double digits good. His average running position was 10th. To play it safe this weekend, I would view Dillon as a mid to high-teens driver.
Christopher Bell – At Charlotte, keep expectations low with Christopher Bell, but he does have some upside. He just finished 11th at Darlington #2 so hopefully its a sign things will start to get better. That said, I don’t like either Bell’s results at high-speed intermediate tracks this year, and at Las Vegas the lone 1.5 mile track visited he was extremely uncompetitive. At that venue he finished 33rd and had a 27.2 average running position. In the Xfinity Series at Charlotte, Bell’s last two results are 31st (2019) and 3rd (2018).

Cole Custer – At Charlotte, I think there’s a good chance Cole Custer will be a high-teens driver. This year at the two high-speed intermediate tracks visited he has a pair of high-teen results (18th at Auto Club, 19th at Las Vegas). Those two performances are by far the best way to gauge his fantasy value for Sunday night. At Charlotte in the Xfinity Series, Custer has finished in the top seven in 2 of the last 3 races.
