Charlotte Roval Fantasy NASCAR Confidence Rankings / Driver Breakdowns
1) Chase Elliott (Starting – 2nd)
Charlotte Roval Fantasy Spin – Chase Elliott is the premiere road course racer in NASCAR and after a dominant day at the Daytona Road Course in August, there’s no question he’ll be the driver to beat. On this track type, Elliott has 3 straight wins and overall he’s been the victor in 4 of the last 6. Since 2018 at these serpentine venues minus Sonoma 2019 (engine failure while running in the top 5), Elliott has a 2.3 average finish. Over the last three road course races, Elliott has led 56% of the laps. This summer at Daytona, Elliott was by far the class of the field. In the race he finished 1st, led 34 laps (53% of the race) and ranked as the 3rd Fastest Driver Late In A Run. On Sunday, look for Elliott to finish in the top five and be a factor to win.
Charlotte Roval Track History – Chase Elliott is the defending champion at the Charlotte Roval, and last year Elliott put on a display of domination, despite crashing while leading! In 2019 at the Roval, Elliott started 19th, finished 9th in Stage #1, won Stage #2 and led the most laps (34). It certainly wasn’t an easy afternoon for him. On lap 66 while leading during a restart he locked up his brakes and went nose first into the tire barrier. He bounced back from that and had no problems racing his way to the front of the field. Elliott’s strength was being fast late in a run, and in that statistic he ranked #1. In 2018, Elliott had a strong performance. When the checkered flag waved he finished 6th, earned the 4th best driver rating and had a 9th place average running position. Additionally, Elliott finished 5th in Stage #1 and 7th in Stage #2.

2) Martin Truex Jr. (Starting – 7th)
Charlotte Roval Fantasy Spin – Martin Truex Jr. is a super-elite road course racer who should be on your short list of favorites. After Chase Elliott, he’s the next best driver on this track type. Over the last eight races at road courses, Truex has 3 wins, 2 runner-ups and a series best 3.8 average finish. I’ll note, Truex would have 4 wins, but Jimmie Johnson’s “Hail Mary” in 2018 at the Roval cost him the “W.” This summer at the Daytona Road Course, Truex finished 3rd, ranked as the Fastest Driver Late In A Run and led 10 laps. His performance is even more impressive when you take into account he overcame a speeding penalty.
Charlotte Roval Track History – Martin Truex Jr. has been a strong performer at the Charlotte Roval. Last year at the Roval, Truex Jr. started in the back, messed up in the chicane twice (stop and go penalty on the track) but he still managed to finish 7th when the checkered flag waved. In terms of speed late in a run, he ranked as the 4th best. In 2018, Truex Jr. had a great performance and would’ve won if Johnson didn’t take him out when he wheel hopped right at the end. That collision took away a certain victory and relegated him to a 14th place finish. From the race I’ll note he earned the 6th best driver rating and had an 8th place average running position.

3) Kevin Harvick (Starting – 4th)
Charlotte Roval Fantasy Spin – Kevin Harvick is a strong road course racer who’s primed to have a strong showing at the Charlotte Roval. On Sunday, I would look for Harvick to finish in the top ten and compete for a top five. He’s a strong road course racer who’s run well in both of his previous Roval starts. This summer at the Daytona Road Course, Harvick was a top ten contender, but spun late and finished 17th. Last year at road courses, Harvick had a 5.3 average finish, a 7.3 average running position and was one of just three drivers who finished in the top ten every race.
Charlotte Roval Track History – Kevin Harvick has been a successful performer at the Charlotte Roval. He’s 2 for 2 at finishing in the top ten and his combined average finish is 6th. Last year, Harvick had a great race. He finished 8th in Stage #1, 6th in Stage #2, finished 3rd overall, had a race best 3.3 average running position and led the 2nd most laps (34). In terms of speed late in a run, he ranked as the 2nd best. In 2018, Harvick ran well. He finished 9th, earned the 9th best driver rating and had a 10th place average running position.
