Denny Hamlin who started 3rd was very fast in the infield portion of the track at the start. On lap #1 right when they were heading back out to the oval, he took the lead. Hamlin led the first 9 laps.

On lap #2 it was shown that Joey Logano had some damage to the front of his nose after driving over a chicane. Logano reported that his motor felt different after that on lap 3.
On lap 3, Kevin Harvick went off-roading for his first time of the day in the “bus stop” turn.

On lap 7, Matt DiBenedetto missed the chicane and had to do a “stop and go” penalty on the track.
On lap 7, Joey Logano came to pit road as a strategy play. Kurt Busch came to pit road at that time too.

On lap 9 the first caution came out so they could clean the “bus stop” turn because of a lot of dirt on the track.
Notable Moment: Ricky Stenhouse Jr. got a pit penalty during the first caution.
On lap 11 during the restart while running in 2nd, Ryan Blaney went wide into turn 1 and lost about 4 position.
Notable Moment: On lap 11, Kevin Harvick spun into the grass shortly after the restart.

Right before the Stage #1 caution came out (lap 15) Chase Elliott, Tyler Reddick, Alex Bowman, Austin Dillon, Ryan Blaney, Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch all came to pit road.
Notable Moment: Alex Bowman got a pit penalty during his stop late in Stage #1 (over the wall too soon).

Big Moment: Martin Truex Jr. missed the chicane while leading right at the end of Stage #1 during the competition caution. The penalty had him starting in the rear of the field for the next restart.
