Kevin Harvick who started on the pole failed to lead any laps. He selected to start in the low line.
Chase Elliott who started in 3rd, led the opening 27 laps. Elliott took the lead in the back straightaway on the opening lap.
Early in the race, Denny Hamlin was making great speed running the high-line.

On lap 25 the competition caution came out. At this point in the race speeds were said to have dropped off about 1.5 seconds per lap because of tire wear.
During the competition caution, something happened to William Byron on pit road that plummeted him from about 20th into the low 30’s.
Brad Keselowski had a 20 second pit stop during the competition caution. His team did a packer adjustment. His nose was said to be riding way too low.

Notable Moment: On lap 37 while running around 13th, Tyler Reddick made an unexpected pit stop. He had a loose wheel. This dropped him a lap down into the low 30’s.

Big Moment: On lap 88 which was the opening lap of Stage #2, Kyle Busch had contact with Joey Logano while they were battling 3 wide for the lead. Logano now had a serious tire rub. He shortly came to pit road to change tires. It dropped Logano a lap down to about 30th. Kyle Busch got a little right rear damage, but it wasn’t shown to be too bad. Busch could feel its impact though.

Track conditions note: At the end of Stage #2, the sun was still out but there was definitely an increase in shadows on the track.
