The Super Low Tier – Las Vegas
Justin Haley (Starting – 25th) Justin Haley was the highest finisher of the super low-tier drivers last week at Homestead. When the race reached its conclusion he finished 26th and had a 28.6 average running position. With Haley starting 25th, I don’t see any place differential upside for him, but I do think there’s a great chance he’ll once again be the highest finisher of the super low-tier drivers. Homestead marked Justin Haley’s only start at a 1.5 mile track in NASCAR’s premiere series. In 2020 in the Xfinity Series at Las Vegas, Haley had results of 10th and 12th. Garrett Smithley (Starting – 31st) Garrett Smithley has two starts on his resume at Las Vegas and he’s been consistent. Smithley’s started 34th in both races, and finished 35th in both races. That’s quite a trend. Last fall, Smithley didn’t race here. In spring 2020 in his most recent race en route to his 35th place finish he had a 36.6 average running position. Last week at Homestead, Smithley was the 2nd highest finisher of the super low-tier drivers and in that event he finished 31st and had a 31.3 average running position. (DraftKings $4,700 / FanDuel $2,000 )
Cody Ware (Starting – 33rd) At Homestead, Cody Ware was the 3rd highest finisher of the super low-tier drivers. In that event he finished 32nd and had a 33.1 average running position. In spring 2019, Ware has his most recent/only Las Vegas race on his resume and in that event he finished 35th and had a 35th place average running position. On Sunday, look for Ware to be a low to mid 30’s driver. (DraftKings $4,500 / FanDuel $2,000 )
Quin Houff (Starting – 36th) At Las Vegas, look for Quin Houff to be a low to mid-thirties driver. Last year at “Sin City” he raced here twice and had results of 32nd and 34th for the season. Last week at Homestead, Houff finished 35th and had a 34.4 average running position. (DraftKings $5,300 / FanDuel $2,000 )
BJ McLeod (Starting – 34th) BJ McLeod didn’t race at Las Vegas in 2020. In 2019, McLeod raced in both events and that season he had finishes of 33rd and 37th. Last week at Homestead, McLeod finished 34th and had a 35.9 average running position. Look for McLeod to finish around the mid 30’s on Sunday. (DraftKings $5,100 / FanDuel $2,000 )
Josh Bilicki (Starting – 35th) Last week at Homestead, Josh Bilicki was the “middle of the line” super low-tier guy. In the race he was the fourth highest finisher of this group of eight tier. When the checkered flag waved he finished 34th and had a 35.9 average running position. Last fall at Las Vegas in his lone track start he finished 36th after being sidelined prematurely due to suspension issues. (DraftKings $4,800 / FanDuel $2,000 )
Joey Gase (Starting – 37th) Joey Gase has quite a few Las Vegas starts on his resume, but you don’t want to see the numbers. Over his five combined starts his average finish is 34.8. Last year at Las Vegas, Gase was in both events and had results of 31st and 35th for the season. In 2019, Gase had a pair of 38th’s. In the 2020 Playoffs at 1.5 mile tracks, Gase had a 36.3 average finish. Gase is the only super low-tier driver of this grouping who didn’t race last week at Homestead. Look for Gase to likely be a mid to high-thirties driver unless the attrition rate is high. (DraftKings $4,600 / FanDuel $2,000 )
Timmy Hill (Starting – 38th) Timmy Hill will be rolling into Las Vegas with his 2018 Toyota and it will go about as well as you can imagine. Last year at Las Vegas, Timmy Hill had results of 37th and 38th. In both of those events he had a DNF due to “Rear End” problems. Overall at “Sin City”, Hill has five starts and only in one of them did he avoid a DNF, and in that race he finished 41 laps down. Last week at Homestead, the first 1.5 mile track visited this season he completed 21 laps and finished last after having electrical problems. Look for Timmy Hill to only edge DNF drivers.
