Martinsville Race Notes
Prior to the green flag, Denny Hamlin who started in 4th had travel packer concerns with his suspension. It’s theorized it was left in after inspection by mistake. His car seemed to race just fine when the green flag waved.
Brad Keselowski who started on the pole selected to start in the low-line. He led the opening 3 laps.
On lap 4, Martin Truex Jr. ducked below Keselowski and took the lead. Keselowski then led the next 89 laps.
On lap 5, Denny Hamlin and Kurt Busch got around Keselowski.
Big Moment: On lap 10, Michael McDowell had a serious tire rub. On lap 15 he came to pit road to change tires under green. This dropped him a couple of laps down.

During the competition caution on lap 60, Kurt Busch had a 20 second pit stop which dropped him from the top five to 10th.

Notable Moment: On lap 73, Clint Bowyer spun and it caused Austin Dillon to come to a stop which cost him track position. Bowyer was in 12th and Dillon was in 15th.

During the Stage #1 caution, Joey Logano told his team that his speed firing off was great.

Big Moment: Chris Buescher’s car was smoking heavily on lap 146 and it brought out a caution. He ran into the back of Daniel Suarez. This marked the end of his race. Just prior to his problem he was running around the mid 20’s.
Around lap 148 during caution, Kevin Harvick told his team his car won’t take off, won’t turn and he had no grip on exit.

On lap 162, Chase Elliott took the lead and then led the next 55 laps.

Big Moment: On lap 182, Kevin Harvick had a flat tire and made an unexpected pit stop under green. This dropped him two laps down. He had contact with Matt Kenseth.
Shortly after Harvick pitted, the caution came out. This helped Harvick get one lap back. Brennan Poole got into the wall at this time.

Notable Moment: During the Brennan Poole caution, Erik Jones was penalized when equipment left his pit box. Jones was running just short of the top ten at the time.

Notable Moment: On lap 216, Ryan Preece and John Hunter Nemechek had contact. Preece spun. No notable damage though. The caution came out, but Harvick didn’t get the free pass. They were running in the low 20’s at the time.

Big Moment: During the Stage #2 caution, Denny Hamlin had to make a second pit stop since his team didn’t get all their lug nuts tight. This dropped him deep in the field back to about 29th.

With 102 laps to go, James Davison was slow on the track and brought out the caution. He said he lost power. Kevin Harvick finally got the free pass at this time. At this point, Harvick’s car was the best its been all day.

Big Moment: With 60 laps to go, William Byron backed the #24 into the wall. He was running around 14th at the time. He had a tire go down.

Big Moment: With 40 laps to go while running in 2nd, Truex Jr. began to complaining about having a loose wheel.
