The Super Low Tier – Richmond
Justin Haley (Starting – 34th) At Richmond, look for Justin Haley to once again be the top super low tier driver. For the season minus Martinsville where he crashed his average finish is 26.6. At Richmond, Haley has never been in a Cup race. Last year in the Xfinity series at Richmond, Haley had results of 2nd and 6th. Phoenix is a good barometer for Richmond and this spring in the desert he finished 24th. On Sunday, look for Haley to be about a 25th to 30th place driver. (DraftKings $5,200 / FanDuel $3,000 )
BJ McLeod (Starting – 35th) BJ McLeod has been racing in NASCAR’s top series since 2015 and has 65 races under his belt. It’s shocking that he’s never raced at Richmond! This season on the track, McLeod really hasn’t been that bad in “Super Low Tier” terms. Minus Daytona he’s finished between 29th to 34th every race and has a 31.4 average finish. In 3 of his last 4 races he’s finished in either 29th or 30th. Phoenix is the most similar track visited this year and at that venue he finished 30th and had the 31st best Total Speed Ranking. (DraftKings $5,100 / FanDuel $2,500 )
Cody Ware (Starting – 33rd) Last year at Richmond there was zero cautions for “On track incidents.” I wouldn’t be surprised if Cody “The Caution Machine” Ware brings out a yellow. At Richmond, Ware has no Cup starts on his resume. Phoenix is a good barometer for Richmond and this spring in the desert he crashed and finished 36th. If Cody Ware can avoid trouble, I think he’s realistically a low 30’s driver. Since Homestead minus Phoenix all of his results are between 28th to 32nd. (DraftKings $4,900 / FanDuel $3,000 )
James Davison (Starting – 28th) At Richmond, look for Davison to be a low to mid 30’s performer. Last year at Richmond, Davison finished a clunker 37th. Earlier this year at Phoenix, Davison finished 33rd and had a 33.1 average running position. (DraftKings $4,600 / FanDuel $2,000 )
Quin Houff (Starting – 32nd) At Richmond, look for Quin Houff to be a low to mid thirties performer. Houff has raced at Richmond three times and all three of his results are between 32nd to 35th. Last year at Richmond, Houff finished 32nd and had a 33.4 average running position. In 2019 his results were 34th and 35th. I will note if attrition gets high, which I don’t think will be the case, Houff might be able to sneak in a good finish. This year at the two short tracks visited he has finishes of 24th (Martinsville) and 25th (Bristol). (DraftKings $4,800 / FanDuel $2,500 )
Garrett Smithley (Starting – 37th) It’s been over a month since we last seen Garrett Smithley on the track. For the season his average finish is 30.75 and at Phoenix where we last seen him, which is also the most similar track visited, Smithley finished 34th but had a race worst Total Speed Ranking. At Richmond, Smithley has no starts on his resume. On Sunday, I think he’s a low to mid 30’s driver. (DraftKings $5,300 / FanDuel $2,000 )
Josh Bilicki (Starting – 31st) With Timmy Hill out of the equation, I think there’s a great chance Josh Bilicki will be fielding the least competitive car on the track this weekend. For the season minus the Daytona 500 and Martinsville, he’s finished between 30th to 37th every race and has a 34.3 average finish. At Phoenix this spring, Bilicki finished 35th and had the 37th best Total Speed Ranking. At Richmond, Josh Bilicki has no Cup starts on his resume. (DraftKings $4,700 / FanDuel $3,000 )
