The Super Low Tier – Darlington
Justin Haley (Starting 31st) Among super low tier teams, Justin Haley has been fielding the fastest car of the group. This season his Total Speed Ranking in every race is between 29th to 33rd. At Homestead and Atlanta the two high-tire wear venues visited, Haley’s Total Speed Ranking was 31st. In the results column at those venues he had finishes of 26th (Homestead) and 30th (Atlanta). Last year in the Xfinity Series at Darlington, Haley had results of 10th and 13th. On Sunday, look for Haley to be a high-twenties to low-thirties driver.
BJ McLeod (Starting 32nd) BJ McLeod doesn’t have a confidence inspiring track record at Darlington. His average finish is 36.5, and in half his starts he’s had a DNF. Last year, McLeod was in all three Darlington races. He finished 36th in the fall and in the spring he had a pair of 39th’s. Among super low tier teams, McLeod actually fields the 2nd fastest car on a week to week basis in 2021. This year minus the Daytona 500 his Total Speed Ranking has been between 31st to 35th on a week to week basis. Over McLeod’s last seven races this season minus Talladega he’s finished between 29th to 34th every race. On Sunday, look for him to finish around that range again.
JJ Yeley (Starting 34th) At Darlington, look for JJ Yeley to be a low to mid-thirties driver. If things go really well and attrition stacks up, he might be able to sneak in a high-twenties finish. Over the last five Darlington races, Yeley has finished between 28th to 32nd. In 2020, Yeley participated in all three races and had results of 28th, 28th and 30th.
Quin Houff (Starting 35th) Quin Houff competed in all three Darlington races last year and had a 31st place average finish over the combined events. Last fall, Houff finished 31st and had a 34.3 average running position. In the two spring Darlington races he had results of 26th and 36th. Since 2020 at high-tire wear tracks, Houff has had a Total Speed Ranking between 34th and 36th every race. On Sunday, look for Houff to be a low to mid 30’s driver.
Cody Ware (Starting 33rd) At Darlington, look for Ware to be a low to mid thirties driver. This year since NASCAR left Daytona his average finish is 32.3. At Darlington, Ware has one start on his resume and in 2017 he finished 37th. In terms of speed fielded by the #51 team, Ware is a middle of the pack super low tier driver.
James Davison (Starting 36th) James Davison raced last fall at Darlington and had a short evening. In the race he completed 162 laps before his engine expired which led to his 39th place finish. This year on the track minus Martinsville and the Daytona Road Course, Davison has finished between 32nd to 37th every race. On Sunday, look for Davison to finish around that range again.
Josh Bilicki (Starting 37th) On Sunday, Josh Bilicki should be at the bottom of your fantasy NASCAR radar. The #52 is slow and over his last nine races this season he hasn’t had a Total Speed Ranking above 35! For the season minus the Daytona 500 and short tracks his average finish is 36th! Last year at Darlington, Bilicki was in two races and he recorded results of 32nd and 34th. On Sunday, look for Bilicki to finish in the bottom half of the 30’s.
