Circuit Of The Americas (COTA) Fantasy NASCAR Quick Read Preview

1) Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. is a four-time winner at road courses who’ll be tough to  beat at COTA. Since 2018 on this track type minus this years race at the Daytona Road Course (top 5 good) and the Charlotte Roval in 2018 (spun out while leading on the last lap), Truex has 2 wins and a 3.3 average finish. Truex’s two wins over that stretch which were both dominant have come at Sonoma, which is the most technical pre-existing road course on the schedule. Overall at Sonoma, Truex has three wins and his prowess over Elliott there is why I give him the edge. What makes Truex so strong on this track type is that he’s fast over long runs. Truex’s speed late in a run rankings at road courses since 2019 minus last years Charlotte Roval race are 2,1,4,1 and 1. Truex also tested here earlier in the year, so he’ll have an edge over many.

2) Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott has thrived at road courses. He’s a five-time winner on this track type and likely would’ve got his 6th if it wasn’t for the “Rain Caution” at the Daytona Road Course earlier this year which cost him a near certain victory. Since 2018 at road courses minus this years race at the Daytona Road Course and Sonoma 2019 where his engine blew up while running in the top five, Elliott has a 2.1 average finish. Earlier this year, Elliott tested at COTA.

3) Denny Hamlin – Denny Hamlin is a strong performer at road courses, with the exception of the Charlotte Roval which has his number. On this track type since 2016 minus races at the Charlotte Roval, Hamlin has a 4.7 average finish and in 8 of the 10 races he’s finished in the top five.
