Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Watkins Glen (2019)
Kyle Busch – Nobody had a more eventful afternoon then Kyle Busch in 2019 at Watkins Glen. In the race, Busch spun on lap #2 while battling for 2nd which dropped him back to 10th, had William Byron plow into the back of him while running in 4th at the end of Stage #1, got a speeding penalty during the Stage #1 caution and had a run-in with Bubba Wallace which resulted in him spinning which brought out the final caution on lap 62. If all those problems didn’t happen, I think Busch clearly was poised to be a top five contender. Despite all of those problems, Busch finished 11th which is impressive.
William Byron – William Byron had a fast car in 2019 at Watkins Glen, but he also caused his own demise. In the race he started 2nd, finished 5th in Stage #1, but then during the Stage #1 caution he showed his displeasure to Kyle Busch and ran into the back of the #18. That absolutely destroyed the front of the #24 which ruined what looked like a promising afternoon (Tweet pic). When the checkered flag waved he finished 21st.
