Tier #1 Super Elite
1) Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson ranks as one of the best road course racers in 2021. He dominated at Sonoma, finished 2nd at COTA, wrecked while making a pass for 2nd at Daytona RC and then likely would’ve finished in the top ten at Road America if his race would’ve been incident free. Back in his #42 days at Watkins Glen, Larson was great here and his two most recent finishes are 8th (2019) and 6th (2018). In a stronger #5, it’s wise to have high expectations.
2) Martin Truex Jr. – Martin Truex Jr. has been great at Watkins Glen. In his last four races here he’s finished 2nd, 2nd, 1st and then 7th. Take note in that 7th he was running in 2nd before getting spun on the last lap.
3) Chase Elliott (STARTING IN THE REAR OF THE FIELD)– Chase Elliott is the premiere road course racer in NASCAR and currently at Watkins Glen, Elliott has back to back wins. This year at road courses, Elliott has 2 wins, should’ve won a third (robbed at Daytona RC) and finished 2nd at Sonoma. In terms of Road Course Total Speed Rankings, Elliott ranks #1 in 2021.
