During pace laps it was mentioned that Ryan Blaney was using Brad Keselowski’s setup. Richmond ranks as one of his worst tracks so he was trying to change things up.
Martin Truex Jr. who won the pole led the opening 32 laps. Truex choose to start in the low line.
Big: Justin Haley coasted to pit road when the race went green. He had engine problems and it marked the end of his race. He completed only 1 lap!

Around lap 25 it was mentioned that Austin Dillon use to hate coming to Richmond, now it was his favorite track. He found something he liked here during a tire test in 2017.
On lap 30 the competition caution came out.
Denny Hamlin won the race off pit road during the competition caution. Hamlin then led the next 71 laps.
Notable: Daniel Suarez had an uncontrolled tire during the competition caution pit stop. Suarez was running around the mid 20’s at the time. It dropped him to the rear of the field.
Notable: During the competition caution, Kyle Larson lost about 10 positions during his stop.

Notable: On lap 142, the caution came out during the pit cycle when Ryan Newman spun after contact from Austin Cindric. Newman didn’t appear to get any notable damage. This was the first caution for cause in two years at Richmond.
