Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Charlotte Roval 2020
Kyle Busch – The Charlotte Roval has been pretty brutal to Kyle Busch in the results column, but he wasn’t bad last year and was a legit top ten contender despite his 30th place finish. Last fall at the Roval, Busch was running in 5th on lap 47, but then on lap 49 which was the last lap of Stage #2 he had a flat tire which dropped him deep in the running order. Busch battled back and was legitimately in 4th on lap 83, but the #18 was up for Playoff elimination, and desperate teams do desperate things. On lap 86 the caution came out and nearly everyone else pitted but him and his JGR teammates. That got Busch the lead temporarily, but then with 2 laps to go while he was in the top ten he ducked down pit road for fuel which led to his poor finish. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Busch ranked as the 10th best and in the final segment he fielded the 6th fastest car on the track.
Christopher Bell – Christopher Bell had a great car last year at the Roval, but you wouldn’t know that by his 24th place finish. “Performance Wise”, Bell was easily a top ten contender and his Total Speed Ranking for the afternoon was the 5th best, with him ranking in the top 3 over the first three segments. In the race, Bell finished 2nd in Stage #1, 3rd in Stage #2 and was running in 9th on lap 83, but then a few laps later the caution came out and he chose not to pit, which really burned him when he had to come in for fuel under green around lap 98 which led to his poor finish.
Michael McDowell – Michael McDowell was a big let down late last year at the Charlotte Roval. On lap 101 while he was running in the mid-teens, he spun twice on that lap which nose dived him in the running order leading to his 32nd place finish.
