The race started in wet conditions with drivers using wet tires.
Brad Keselowski who started in 3rd led the opening 7 laps. He took the lead in the back stretch chicane.
On lap 2, Michael McDowell who started in 31st was up 10 positions.
At lap 6, it was still slightly raining.

On lap 8, Chase Elliott took the lead and then led the next 5 laps.
At the completion of lap 10, the competition caution came out.
During the competition caution, much of the field didn’t pit. Ty Dillon put on race slicks. Kevin Harvick put on wet tires.
On lap 13, it was said that the rain had passed.

Notable: On lap 14, Ryan Newman who was on slick tires spun. He didn’t hit anything, but he lost track position.
On lap 16, the track conditions went more so towards slick tires. At that time, Ty Dillon was said to have the fastest car on the track. The slicks were said to be 4 seconds a lap quicker at this time.
Christopher Bell came to pit road on lap 16 to get slicks. He was soon followed by many others.

On lap 20, Ty Dillon took the lead.

Notable: On lap 20, Denny Hamlin spun into the grass. He got out pretty quickly, but had a little bit of damage. Hamlin just pitted prior to that and put on slick tires.
Notable: On lap 22, John Hunter Nemechek spun into the grass and got stuck which brought out the caution.
During the JHN caution which was late in Stage #1, Kurt Busch was still on wet tires and he was the only driver who didn’t pit.
NASCAR restarted on lap 25 to run 1 more lap under green to end Stage #1.

During the Stage #1 caution, Kevin Harvick’s team lifted his hood and did some repair.

Notable: On lap 29, Erik Jones was said to have an issue and he came back to pit road.

Notable: On lap 34, Brad Keselowski spun in front of Erik Jones and Matt DiBenedetto. Nobody got notable damage, but it hurt all three in terms of track position. They were all in the top ten, but it dropped them back to the mid-teens to high-teens.
Notable: On lap 35 while running in 2nd, Christopher Bell spun. It cost him a couple of positions.

Notable: On lap 38 while running in the low 30’s, Ryan Newman spun.
Notable: On lap 38 while running in 16th, Aric Almirola spun. He fell back into the 30’s.
On lap 39, Ryan Blaney was said to have impressive pace. It was said that he as a second faster then race leader, William Byron.

On lap 44, Denny Hamlin came to pit road to do a green flag pit stop. Quite a few others including Bell, DiBenedetto, Almirola and Harvick came to pit road.
On lap 45, the caution came out for when JJ Yeley spun. This led to drivers ducking down pit road on lap 44.

Big: On lap 49, the last lap of Stage #2, Kyle Busch had a flat tire. He was running in the top ten at the time.

Notable: On lap 53 right when the race was going green, Chase Elliott came to pit road. He had a loose wheel. Elliott just finished 2nd in Stage #2.
