Martin Truex Jr. was the only championship contender who did a mock qualifying run, and he was said to rank 4th among drivers who did that.
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson is using the same chassis he raced with this spring at Phoenix. Early in practice, Kyle Larson had the best 5 lap average. Late in practice when Larson moved up to running in the resin, he found speed and posted the 2nd best 10 lap average.
Denny Hamlin – Hamlin was said to be happy with his car over the course of a run. Hamlin didn’t make a qualifying run. Denny Hamlin had the 7th best 10 lap average.
Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott is racing a brand new chassis this weekend. Early in practice, Elliott had a good 5 lap average. Late in practice Elliott said, “I feel like my balance is too tight there.” In practice, Elliott had the 4th best 5 lap average, the 3rd best 10 lap average and the 2nd best 15 lap average.
