Daytona Race Notes
William Byron who started on the front row in the outside lane led the opening 6 laps. During his time at the front, Byron worked both the top lane and the bottom lane.
On lap 7, Kevin Harvick took the lead and then led the next 2 laps. Ryan Blaney was making a run in the bottom lane and then Kevin Harvick ducked down right in front of him.

On lap 14, the front of the field was three-wide.
Notable: Ross Chastain was extremely racy early on. On lap 17, Chastain was up to 2nd after starting in the bottom third of the field. Chastain wanted his presence known so other drivers would potentially work with him at the end. On lap 18, Chastain decided to drop back, and then on lap 19 he made an unexpected pit stop due to a flat tire.
On lap 20, the competition caution came out. Most drivers did fuel only during this stop.
Kurt Busch missed his pit box during the competition caution. He was back in 27th prior to the problem so it really didn’t matter.
Big: During the competition caution, Michael McDowell’s engine blew up and his race was over.

During the Stage #1 caution it was mentioned how good of a pusher Denny Hamlin was.
Notable: During the Stage #1 caution, Joey Logano got a pit penalty which dropped him to the back when a crew member threw his air gun.
Before the green flag to start Stage #2, a lot of teams came back to pit road for more fuel. Those teams were speculated to be able to go the full Stage on their fuel load. Others would have to pit or be incredibly close.

Big: On lap 77, a multi-car accident ensued mid-pack. Drivers collected were Almirola, Bowman, Preece and Alfredo. Almirola had quite a bit of damage, but he was able to continue. Denny Hamlin was shown to have some minor nose damage at this time.
