Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Daytona Summer 2021
In every race, drivers have problems and walk away with asterisk mark results. Understanding misleading finishes and knowing how well a driver truly performed can help give you the edge on your competition.
Chris Buescher – No driver had a more misleading result last summer at Daytona than Chris Buescher. Buescher was the leader at the start of overtime, and he crossed the finish line in 2nd. Unfortunately, the #17 car wasn’t legal and during post-race inspection he was disqualified which led to his asterisk mark 40th place finish.
Joey Logano – Joey Logano had a great car last summer at Daytona, but he walked away with an asterisk mark 24th. In the race, Logano finished 8th in Stage #1, won Stage #2, led a race high 37 laps but then on lap 155 while he was running in 3rd, he had a flat tire and got into the wall which led to his misleading result.
Michael McDowell – Michael McDowell won last year’s Daytona 500. What did he do in his first Daytona race since winning the trophy? Last summer, McDowell completed just 23 laps and his engine didn’t even make it to the competition caution which led to his 39th.

Kevin Harvick – Last summer at Daytona, Kevin Harvick was poised to walk away with a great finish, but on the last lap in overtime while he was running in 2nd, Daniel Suarez had contact with him which sent the #4 spinning and in his wake, the “Big One” ensued. Due to the crash, Harvick finished 15th. I’ll note, if that crash didn’t happen, Harvick likely would’ve went 4 for 4 in 2021 at finishing in the top ten at superspeedways.
