The Daytona Super Unlucky 6
1) Daniel Suarez – Daytona has been brutal to Daniel Suarez. He’s had a DNF in 8 of his 9 races, and as a bonus, he also missed the 2020 Daytona 500. Currently at Daytona, Suarez has a 7 straight accident streak, can he run it up to 8 in this year’s Daytona 500? I wouldn’t count it out! In 2021 at Daytona, Suarez completed just 13 laps in the 500 before totaling his car, and in the summer, it looked like Suarez would end his DNF streak, but on the final lap while he was running in 3rd he had contact with Harvick and wrecked.
2) Brad Keselowski – Brad Keselowski is one of the premiere superspeedway racers in NASCAR, but Daytona has been a consistent buzz saw to him since his summer 2016 win. Over the last ten Daytona races, Brad Keselowski only has 1 top ten (a 10th) and in 7 of the 10 races he’s finished 27th or worse! In 2021, Keselowski drove a conservative race in the summer but still wrecked late (33rd), and in the Daytona 500 we all know how that played out when he wrecked trying to make a pass for the lead. I’ll note that 13th from his wreck is actually one of his best recent results!
3) Kyle Busch – Daytona hasn’t been kind to Kyle Busch. Over the last ten Daytona races, Kyle Busch only has 1 top ten, 7 results south of 20th and in 50% of the races since 2017 he’s finished in the 30’s. Last year at Daytona, Busch was strong in both races, but wrecked late in both.

4) Kurt Busch – Kurt Busch won the 2017 Daytona 500, but since then things have gone south. In 7 of the 9 races since his win he’s finished 22nd or worse. In 2021, Busch wrecked in the early “Big One” in the Daytona 500 (kept on going, finished 22nd) and in the summer, Busch was running in 4th on the final lap until he was caught up in the carnage (12th).
5) Martin Truex Jr. – Daytona hasn’t been kind to Truex Jr. He’s had some great results over the years, but he’s had a lot more bad ones! Among existing tracks on the schedule visited more than once, it ranks as his very worst. In 5 of the last 6 races at this “Wild Card” track he’s finished 22nd or worse. Over the last ten races, Truex has finished south of 18th, 70% of the time. In 2021, Truex was involved in wrecks in both races.
6) Ricky Stenhouse – As you can tell from reading above, some drivers luck can completely go south after winning at Daytona. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. is part of that list. Since winning at Daytona in summer 2017, Stenhouse has ZERO top tens and his average finish is 21.9. In 2021, Stenhouse wrecked in both races and had results of 18th and 22nd.
