The Low Tier – Auto Club
Cody Ware – What could go wrong picking Cody Ware at Auto Club? Probably a lot! Back in 2019 when he made his lone Cup series start here, Ware finished 32nd and had a 33.1 average running position. Last year at high-wear intermediate tracks, Cody Ware went 5 for 5 at finishing between 31st to 34th and his average finish was 32.6. At Auto Club, look for Ware to be a low to mid-thirties driver, but with a small field (only 36 cars) and some Next Gen wildness waiting in the wings, I wouldn’t be surprised if he finishes in the high-twenties.
BJ McLeod – At Auto Club, BJ McLeod will take care of his equipment, but you can pencil him in as a low to mid-thirties driver. In 2021 at high-wear intermediates, McLeod went 5 for 5 at finishing between 27th to 34th and his average finish was 31.4.
Garrett Smithley – At Auto Club, look for Smithley to be a low to mid-thirties driver. There’s only 36 drivers competing, so he’s certainly not a threat to finish in the high-thirties. At Auto Club, Smithley actually has two starts under his belt already. He finished 34th in 2020 and 36th in 2019. Last year at high-wear intermediate tracks, Smithley competed twice and had a pair of 31st’s.
Josh Bilicki – At Auto Club, Josh Bilicki has never made a Cup start. Last year at high-wear intermediates, Bilicki finished 28th at Darlington #2 which was a high attrition race, but in the other four he finished between 33rd to 37th. Look for Bilicki to finish near the rear of the field.
