Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Las Vegas Fall 2021
Kyle Larson – Last fall at Las Vegas, Kyle Larson potentially had the best car, but Joey Gase crashed early in Stage #2 which likely cost him the race. That got Larson and numerous other front runners out of sync with much of the field fuel strategy wise, and he simply never bounced back (X-Ray Chart). Late in Stage #2 while leading, Larson had to come in for fuel when much of the field didn’t which dropped him back in the running order and off the lead lap. Prior to that, Larson won Stage #1, led 95 laps and in the first two segments he ranked #1 in terms of Total Speed Rankings. Back in traffic, the #5 simply wasn’t as fast and it led to his asterisk mark 10th place finish.
William Byron – William Byron had a fast car last fall at Las Vegas which ranked among the best but he finished an asterisk mark 18th. In the race, just like Larson he was a driver who got out of sync with the field fuel strategy wise during the Joey Gase caution which increased his level of difficulty. In the event he finished 5th in Stage #1, but then early in Stage #2 Joey Gase crashed. Byron battled back though and climbed back up to 5th on lap 224, but then at that time he had a flat tire which doomed him. In terms of speed analytics (Speed Cheat Sheet), Byron had the best Total Speed Ranking, best Speed By Segment and the best Green Flag Speed.
