The Fantasy NASCAR Low Tier – Phoenix
Landon Cassill – At Phoenix, Landon Cassill will return to competition and pilot the #77 Spire Motorsports Chevy. Corey LaJoie is his teammate, so that should be a reference in terms of what level of equipment you should expect. His team has his Crypto sponsorship, so there’s some hope their spending money to be more competitive, but I wouldn’t count on it. At Phoenix, Cassill hasn’t raced there since 2019 and that season, he had a pair of 33rd’s. In his five starts prior to that he finished in the 20’s.
BJ McLeod – At Phoenix, BJ McLeod may very well prove to be the top low-tier pick. Last year in the desert, McLeod finished 27th in the fall and then 30th in the spring. This year on the track, McLeod is 3 for 3 at finishing in the 20’s and his average finish is 25.6. The more attrition, the better for him! On Sunday, I would view McLeod as a high-twenties to low-thirties driver.
Cody Ware – At Phoenix minus last spring where he crashed, Cody Ware is 3 for 3 at finishing between 28th to 32nd. On Sunday, I think it’s reasonable to expect him to finish around that range again. Last fall at Phoenix, Ware finished 28th, but take note he finished 6 laps down.
Garrett Smithley – At Phoenix, Garrett Smithley is a lock to finish in the 30’s. In the desert he’s 5 for 5 at finishing in the 30’s and his average finish is 33.6. Last year, Smithley finished 31st in the fall and then 34th in the spring.
Josh Bilicki – If you pick Bilicki, you know what you’re getting yourself into, and it’s a low to mid-thirties finish. Last fall at Phoenix, Bilicki had his best Phoenix race and finished 30th. In his two starts prior to that he had back-to-back 35th’s. This season on the track, Bilicki has results of 29th (Las Vegas) and 30th (Auto Club).
