Atlanta Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
Ryan Blaney – Look for Ryan Blaney to be fast at Atlanta. When it comes to superspeedway racing, and intermediate track racing, Blaney is really the best of both worlds and has a proven knack on both track types. A combination of those two variables is what I would view as the ideal driver for this intermediate track/quasi superspeedway. At intermediate tracks, Blaney has been one of the best this year, but he has a pair of misleading results. That said, his Total Speed Ranking which is tied with Hamlin for being the best in the series doesn’t cover up that fact (pit problems at Auto Club and an accident at Las Vegas). At Daytona since 2020 minus last year’s 500 where he was swept up in the early “Big One”, Blaney has a 3.25 average finish. In this year’s Daytona 500, Blaney led 36 laps and finished 4th. In terms of pure drafting ability, Ryan Blaney ranks among the best and he’s not afraid to make aggressive moves, as long as there’s not a teammate ahead of him.

Joey Logano – At Atlanta, I think Joey Logano will be a factor. Logano is an aggressive superspeedway racer, and he’s also a strong intermediate track performer. When you combine those two variables, it’s pretty clear he’s poised to have a strong showing. This year at intermediate tracks, Logano has been solid. For the season on this track type, Logano has the 5th best Total Speed Ranking, a 9.5 average finish, an 8.1 average running position and his Driver Rating is the 5th best. At superspeedways, Joey Logano is a super-elite performer, but his luck has gone south in recent races, but make no mistake he’s one of the best.
Kyle Larson – At Atlanta, Kyle Larson will be a factor. Atlanta is theorized to be a quasi-intermediate/superspeedway, but I think overall prowess at intermediate tracks is the way to go. I’m thinking the mix to aim for is 80% intermediate track prowess, and then 20% superspeedway racing prowess. When it comes to racing at intermediate tracks, who’s better than Larson? Larson won at Auto Club and then at Las Vegas he finished 2nd. Also, over the combined events, Larson has the best Driver Rating, the 4th best Total Speed Ranking, a 7.2 average running position and he’s averaged leading 27.5 laps per race. In 2021, Larson absolutely had the field covered at intermediates. I will note, the superspeedway racing element which is part of the equation at Atlanta will be somewhat of an equalizer. Unfortunately, at superspeedways, Kyle Larson does a lot of wrecking, so he’ll certainly have risk.
