Bristol Dirt Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Cole Custer
Bristol Dirt Bottom Line – Cole Custer was a complete dud last year at Bristol Dirt. He even took part in the Bristol Dirt Nationals the week before, so it’s confusing how he showed up and never ran better than the high teens. On Sunday, I’m going to view him as essentially a high-teens to low-twenties driver.
Bristol Dirt 2021 – Last year at Bristol Dirt, Cole Custer was less than impressive. In the race he started 21st, had a 22.2 average running position and then finished 24th when the checkered flag waved. Additionally, Custer was the 23rd Fastest Driver Late In A Run and his Total Speed Ranking was the 29th best. It simply wasn’t a competitive showing from the #41.

Michael McDowell
Bristol Dirt Bottom Line – Early in 2021 when the #34 team was running well, Michael McDowell snuck in a solid 12th at Bristol Dirt. Do I think he can repeat it? Nope! Not a chance. In 6 of the last 7 races heading into the weekend, McDowell has finished 24th or worse. On Sunday, I’m going to view McDowell as a 20’s performer.
Bristol Dirt 2021 – Last year at Bristol Dirt, a lot of weird things happened, and one of the weirdest was McDowell sneaking in a 12th. He’s no dirt track racer, and prior to the race his stated game plan was, “I don’t want to knock the fence down for 249 laps. That’s the approach for me. I know I don’t have a lot of dirt experience, so I’m going to try to gain that early on. I will see how many people are left at the end and make a run for it.” In a race of attrition, he executed it perfectly. In the event, McDowell had a 21.6 average running position and had the 24th best Total Speed Ranking. Over the segments, McDowell had speed rankings of 30th, 25th, 18th and then 15th.
Aric Almirola
Bristol Dirt Bottom Line – Aric Almirola’s dirt racing resume is lean and going by his performance last year, I can’t say I’m too optimistic. Last year, Almirola didn’t run well, and he had a self-inflicted crash. On Sunday, I’m going to view him as a 20’s performer and hope for the best.
Bristol Dirt 2021 – Last year on the dirt, Aric Almirola’s race was a disaster, and he finished a clunker 36th. Almirola never ran well and on lap 40 while he was back around the mid 20’s he hit a “Durtle” and spun in front of a bunch of cars which marked his demise. Over the first segment, Almirola’s speed ranking was the 28th best.
