Talladega Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Tyler Reddick
Talladega Fantasy Spin – Tyler Reddick is definitely worthy of consideration at Talladega. Reddick’s finished 7th in half his starts here, and in every race he’s been competitive. Also, Reddick has had recent success on this track type and in 3 of his last 6 starts at “big superspeedways” (Daytona and Talladega) he’s finished between 5th to 7th. So far in 2022 at superspeedways, Reddick has crashed in both races, so hopefully he’s due for some good luck.
Talladega Track History – Last fall at Talladega, Reddick looked racy, but he also crashed which led to his 39th. In the race, Reddick finished 5th in Stage #1 but then on lap 98 he was collected in the carnage which led to his demise. Prior to his problem, Reddick ran well and was clearly a top ten contender. In the two Talladega races prior to that, Reddick had back-to-back 7th’s. In spring 2021, Reddick finished 7th and had a 15.6 average running position. With 12 laps to go until the scheduled distance he was running in 7th. In fall 2020 en route to his 7th place finish, Reddick finished 7th in Stage #1 and had a 14.8 average running position. In spring 2020, Reddick finished 20th, but he didn’t have a bad debut. In the race he won Stage #1, led 19 laps, had a 13.5 average running position and was the leader with 4 laps to go, but I’ll note his fuel mileage situation was questionable at that time which led to him pitting during the final caution.

Ross Chastain
Talladega Fantasy Spin – With how well Ross Chastain has been running, week in and week out in 2022, I wouldn’t be surprised if he smashes another watermelon at Talladega. He’s an extremely capable superspeedway performer, and in the Xfinity series, he’s previously smashed a watermelon on this track type. This year at superspeedways, Chastain crashed in the Daytona 500 and then at Atlanta he battled back after crashing and finished 2nd (led 42 laps). Look for Ross Chastain to race with 200% effort and potentially be a factor.
Talladega Track History – At Talladega, Ross Chastain doesn’t have an attractive resume, but that’s not what’s important to me in regard to him. Last fall, Chastain finished 8th in Stage #1 but then crashed in the lap 98 Big One” which led to his 33rd. In the two Talladega races prior to that his results were 12th and 16th. In his first three starts prior to that his finishes were 26th, 24th and 25th.
Alex Bowman
Talladega Fantasy Spin – Alex Bowman’s recent track record at Talladega has been pretty brutal, but don’t overlook him! Overall at Talladega, Bowman’s finished 37th or worse in 3 of the last 5 races. That said, in 3 of the last 4 spring Dega races he’s finished in the top ten, so there’s hope. This year at superspeedways, Bowman crashed in the 500 and then at Atlanta he finished 10th.
Talladega Track History – At Talladega, nobody had a worse 2021 than Alex Bowman and he had a pair of 38th’s for the season. Last fall, Bowman look strong, but crashed while battling for the lead on lap 98 after getting a bad bump from Stenhouse that led to his demise. In Stage #1, Bowman finished 10th. In spring 2021, Bowman showed potential, but he came home a clunker 38th. In the race he finished 7th in Stage #1, but then on the last lap of Stage #2 he crashed while running in the top ten which led to his poor result. In fall 2020, Bowman had a solid race and finished 14th. In spring 2020, Bowman finished 2nd in Stage #1, led 12 laps, had an 11.5 average running position and finished 7th when the checkered flag waved. With 4 laps to go he was running in 7th, and he even pitted at the end, but still charged up to his good result. In fall 2019, Bowman had one of the best cars, but if you just looked at his 37th place finish you would never know it. In the race he finished 3rd in Stage #1, but in Stage #2 on lap 108 when he pulled out to the lead for a micro second, Logano bumped him and it sent him spinning at the front of the field causing a “Big One.” In spring 2019, Bowman had a great performance. He finished 2nd, earned the 5th best driver rating, had a 9th place average running position, led 8 laps and finished 2nd in both Stage #1 and Stage #2.
