WWT Raceway (Gateway) NASCAR Practice Notes
Joey Logano – Joey Logano had a great car this session. Waltrip said that Logano was by far the fastest driver over a long run. Logano had the best 10 and 15 lap averages. Logano also had the fastest overall speed.
Zane Smith – Zane Smith who is making his Cup debut practiced driving the #17 this session in place of Chris Buescher (Covid-19). Smith did some Cup simulator practice for WWT Raceway this morning. Smith reported that his car was loose all around. Smith’s 10 lap average ranked 23rd (of 25).
Ben Rhodes – Ben Rhodes practiced the #16 car. AJ Allmendinger was at Portland for the Xfinity practice. Allmendinger will race on Sunday. Rhodes had a flat tire and got into the wall 15 minutes into practice. Rhodes will also qualify the #16. Allmendinger will be scored from wherever Rhodes qualifies.
Harrison Burton – Harrison Burton had speed early in practice and spent some time at the top of the speed chart. When practice ended he ranked 12th. Burton’s 10 lap average ranked as the 16th best.
Martin Truex Jr. – 15 minutes into practice, Truex reported a lot of brake shake and he was wobbly on tires taking off, low grip, front wheels chatter… “Like nothing I’ve experienced all year.” Adds he’s tight, tight, tight, then neutral. Truex was never all that happy with his car this session. Truex never made a 10 lap run and his 5 lap average ranked 24th.
