The Low Tier – Atlanta
Landon Cassill – At Atlanta, Landon Cassill will be piloting the #77 Chevy. In 2022 in this ride at superspeedways, Cassill is 2 for 2 at finishing in the teens having come home with results of 15th (Daytona) and 19th (Talladega). Among drivers of this low-tier, Cassill’s the pick.
Cody Ware – Cody Ware will be rooting for attrition, and then hope he’s not part of it. This spring at Atlanta, Ware finished 26th. At the other two superspeedways visited this year, Ware has finishes of 17th (Daytona) and 28th (Talladega)
Garrett Smithley – Garrett Smithley is returning to competition at Atlanta and he’ll be driving the #15 Ford. We haven’t seen Smithley compete in a points paying race since Phoenix in March. This year in the Next Gen, Smithley hasn’t competed at a superspeedway. At Daytona, Smithley only has one Cup start under his belt and in the 2021 Daytona 500 he finished 31st. At Talladega in his two starts, Smithley has results of 29th (fall 2021) and 34th (spring 2020).
BJ McLeod – BJ McLeod is returning to the #78 at Atlanta after the team giving him his regular road course racing break. On a week-to-week basis, the #78 is the slowest car on the track, and I don’t even think the draft being a great equalizer can help him out. McLeod’s gameplan will be to root for attrition, and then to dodge it himself. This spring at Atlanta, that game plan worked out and Smithley finished 19th. At the other superspeedways this year, Smithley finished 26th at Talladega and then 27th at Daytona.
