Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Watkins Glen (2021)
Christopher Bell – Christopher Bell finished 7th last year at Watkins Glen, but that’s an asterisk mark result. In the race, Bell started in the rear of the field due to multiple inspection failures but that wasn’t a problem. Thru pit strategy and having a fast car, Bell raced all the way up to 2nd. Unfortunately, Bell’s race wasn’t incident free. On lap 55 while he was running in 2nd he spun after contact with Kyle Larson that dropped him back to 10th.
Joey Logano – Joey Logano didn’t have a great race last year at Watkins Glen, but he wasn’t 22nd place bad. In the race, I think Logano had teens potential but on lap 56 while he was running around 15th, Brad Keselowski had a braking problem and got into Logano which spun the #22 which dropped him deep in the running order. In terms of speed by segment, Logano’s speed rankings in the race were 2nd, 8th, 17th and then 19th.
Brad Keselowski – Last year at Watkins Glen, Keselowski started on the pole, led the opening 9 laps but then his afternoon went downhill and on lap 10 he spun. Later in the race, he spun again. The second spin when he had contact with Logano while running around the mid-teens did some damage. For whatever reason, the #2 had major locking up brake issues and it led to him finishing 35th. Over the course of the event the #2 just got progressively worse and worse and his speed over the segments were 6th, 22nd, 29th and then 31st.
Daniel Suarez – Last year, Daniel Suarez didn’t run great, but his race also wasn’t incident free and when the checkered flag waved, he finished 31st. On lap 63 during green flag pit stops, Suarez’s car came to a crawl on pit road due to some electrical issue. I’ll note, it did drop him two laps down. On lap 54 which was before the green flag pit cycle started, he was running in 25th. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Suarez ranked 25th.
