Chase Briscoe – 2 Inspection failures
Daniel Hemric – 3 Infection failures, had to serve a pass thru penalty when the race started. Hemric got lapped early as a result.

Daytona Race Notes
Kyle Larson who started on the pole selected to start in the low line.
Brad Keselowski who started in 3rd led the opening 6 laps. Early on, Keselowski led 25 of the first 26 laps. The Ford’s were working together at the front running in the outside groove.
Early in the race, Kyle Busch was leading the Toyota corporate teammates running in the bottom groove. On lap 9, the Toyota’s in the bottom and the Ford’s on the top were running side by side.

On lap 32, Kyle Busch took the all-time lead for most laps led in the Daytona 500 without a win.

On lap 38, the opening round of green flag pit stops started. Ford’s were the first cars to come to pit road. Toyota’s came in a few laps later.
During his green flag pit stop it was mentioned that Kyle Busch has been happy with his car all week at Daytona.
Notable: During the opening round of green flag pit stops, Ty Dillon was caught speeding. This was the first speeding penalty in the last two years in the Daytona 500.
Notable: On lap 41, the caution came out when Kaz Grala lost a wheel. Also at that time, Chase Briscoe lifted and was then spun from Austin Cindric. It was no big deal for Cindric or Briscoe.
During the Grala caution, Alex Bowman came in for tires. Most of the field stayed out.

Notable: On lap 52 the caution came out when Justin Haley lost a tire. The #31 had some suspension issues following. The #14 car had more repairs from his prior spin done at this time.

On lap 58, William Byron pulled out to the lead and led one lap.

Big: On lap 62, Brad Keselowski got aggressive at the front of the pack, and a multi-car wreck ensued. Harrison Burton flipped. Others collected in the carnage were Byron, Kyle Busch, Chastain, Hamlin, Bowman and Bell. Racing never resumed in the Stage. This marked the end of the race for Byron, Burton, Chastain and Hamlin.
- This was Denny Hamlin’s first DNF in a Daytona 500 in 17 years.
- In a post DNF interview, William Byron said his car was really fast and he was happy with how it performed.
