The Low Tier – Darlington
Cody Ware – This spring at Darlington, the attrition rate was historic and as a result, Cody Ware finished a much better than his norm 19th. That said, Ware had a 29th place average running position, the 34th best Total Speed Ranking and was running back in 25th on lap 260 (lap when the “Big One” occurred, quite a bit of attrition before that too). Last year at Darlington, Ware had results of 33rd and 34th. On Sunday night unless the attrition rate will be apocalyptic again, I would pencil in Ware as a high-twenties to low-thirties driver.
JJ Yeley – At Darlington, you can pencil in JJ Yeley as a high-twenties to low-thirties driver. In 5 of his last 6 races this season in the #15, Yeley has finished between 29th to 32nd, with the one outlier being a 35th. This spring at Darlington, the attrition rate was high and Yeley finished 23rd, but take note he had a 31.6 average running position and the 35th best Total Speed Ranking. In Yeley’s six Darlington races prior to that his results were 29th, 30th, 28th, 28th, 32nd and 31st.
Landon Cassill – Like every low tier driver in this post with the exception of BJ McLeod, Landon Cassill finished abnormally well this spring at Darlington thanks to the high attrition rate and when the checkered flag waved he finished 22nd. That said, Cassill had a 28.8 average running position, and his Total Speed Ranking was the 33rd best. Back in 2019 in his next most recent race, Cassill finished 25th.
BJ McLeod – At Darlington, BJ McLeod will field the least competitive car and you can pencil him in as a low to mid-thirties driver. This spring at Darlington, all the other low-tier drivers finished abnormally good, but not McLeod. Brake problems did him in and led to his 32nd place DNF. Last year at “The Lady In Black”, McLeod had results of 27th and 32nd.
