Kansas Fantasy NASCAR Asterisk Mark Report – Kansas
Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott was a top five contender this spring at Kansas but his afternoon wasn’t incident free and as a result he finished an asterisk mark 29th. In the race, Elliott finished 3rd in Stage #1, 5th in Stage #2, led 10 laps but then in the final Stage on lap 195 while running in 6th, he lost a tire and spun.
Tyler Reddick – Tyler Reddick was strong this spring but unfortunately his afternoon wasn’t incident free and as a result he finished 30th. In the race, Reddick led 24 laps, finished 4th in Stage #1 but then in Stage #2 on lap 113 while he was running in 4th, he had debris on his grill and then slammed into the wall. A few laps later, he slammed into it again which led to an unexpected pit stop which ruined his afternoon.
Daniel Suarez – Daniel Suarez was sporty this spring and showed a lot of potential, but his race went downhill in Stage #1. In the race on lap 62 while he was running in 4th, Suarez spun and got into the wall which damaged the #99 dooming him to his 33rd.
William Byron – This spring at Kansas, William Byron had a great car but finished an asterisk mark 16th. In the race, Byron started 13th, finished 5th in Stage #1, led 25 laps but while leading in Stage #2 on lap 113, Byron had a flat tire which dropped him off the lead lap back to 32nd.
Aric Almirola – This spring, Almirola had a tough race and finished 26th after dropping a cylinder. In the race, Almirola started 7th but then during the Suarez caution around lap 62 while running in 9th, he pitted before pit road was open which dropped him to the back. Then during the Stage #1 caution he was penalized for pitting before pit road was open again. With those problems, it’s clear that’s when his problem really started. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Almirola ranked 28th, but take note his speed over the segments were 8th, 32nd, 29th and 30th.
Justin Haley – This spring, Haley had a short race and finished 35th. During a caution around lap 35 he lost a tire (was around 22nd at that time), and then later around the lap 62 caution, there were flames under the #31 which marked the end of his race.
Erik Jones – This spring at Kansas, it’s hard to read into just how good Erik Jones was. In the race, Jones finished 8th in Stage #1, but that also came thru pit strategy. Then during the Stage #1 caution, the #43 team had a hard time changing a right rear and that dropped him 7 laps down dooming him to a 32nd.
Chris Buescher – This spring, Buescher didn’t have an incident free race and finished 27th. In the race, Buescher started in the rear of the field in a backup car, finished about 14th in Stage #1, but then during the Stage #1 caution he was shown to be making a second pit stop which dropped him to the back. Later on lap 139 he was in 21st, but then shortly after that on lap 146 he made an unexpected pit stop which dropped him 3 laps down which doomed him to his poor result. It’s clear, something wasn’t quite right with his backup car, so I won’t read into his afternoon too much.
Bubba Wallace – Bubba Wallace finished 10th this spring at Kansas but I think there’s a good chance he was a little better than his result. In the race, Wallace finished 7th in Stage #1, 10th in Stage #2 and then 10th when the checkered flag waved. In the race, Wallace had multiple problems on pit road which greatly increased his level of difficulty.
