The Super Low Tier – Kansas
Landon Cassill – At Kansas, I expect Landon Cassill to be the most competitive super-low tier performer and I think he has high-twenties potential. Cassill hasn’t raced at a high-speed intermediate track in 2022, but he’s clearly more competitive than the others in this post when he shows up at the track. Over his seven starts this season, Cassill’s average finish is 20.7. Darlington isn’t really a similar track, but I would say it’s the most similar venue he’s raced at on the Cup level in 2022 and this season his results there are 22nd and 25th. In 2019 when he last raced here in less competitive equipment, Cassill had a pair of 37th’s. In his five starts prior to that, Cassill finished in the 20’s.
JJ Yeley – We all remember what JJ Yeley did the last time a high-speed intermediate track was visited, and that was causing a “Big One” (Michigan). This spring at Kansas in his one other race at a high-speed intermediate track this year, Yeley finished 31st, had a 30.9 average running position and had the 33rd best Total Speed Ranking.
Cody Ware – At Kansas, I think Cody Ware is a high-twenties to low-thirties driver. That said, attrition might just bump him up a little more. In 2022 between the high-speed 1.5-mile tracks and Michigan grouping, his average finish is 25.0, his average running position is 28.5 and his Total Speed Ranking is the 33rd best. This spring at Kansas, Ware finished 34th. In 2021, Ware’s results were 31st and 36th.
BJ McLeod – At Kansas, look for BJ McLeod to field the least competitive car. In 2022 at high-speed 1.5-mile tracks, the #78 ranks as the slowest car on the track using the Total Speed Ranking metric. At Kansas, BJ McLeod is 7 for 7 at finishing in the 30’s. This spring, McLeod finished last (36th) with his DNF being attributed to “Chassis.” In 2021, McLeod’s results were 30th and 31st.
