Asterisk Mark Report – Charlotte Roval
William Byron – William Byron had one of the best cars last year at the Charlotte Roval but his afternoon went south in the closing laps which led to his asterisk mark 11th. On lap 90 while battling for 2nd he missed the chicane which dropped him back to about 11th (had to stop on the track) and then on lap 107 after he battled back up to 3rd, he had an out-of-control moment and spun into the grass. In the race, Byron led the most laps (30), had the best average running position (5.2) and the best driver rating.
Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott arguably had the best car last year at the Charlotte Roval and if anything, it’s a miracle he finished 12th in his tore up #9. In the race, Elliott won Stage #1, finished 2nd in Stage #2, led 2 laps but then on lap 55 while he was in the process of working his way up thru the field because of pit strategy, Harvick wrecked him which did a lot of damage to the #9. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Elliott still ranked #2 and his speed over the segments were 1st, 7th, 6th and then 3rd right at the end.
AJ Allmendinger – Allmendinger looked sporty last fall at the Charlotte Roval but he finished an asterisk mark 38th after his engine blew up. In the race, Allmendinger finished 2nd in Stage #1 (pit strategy), led 5 laps (pit strategy), but then on lap 57 while he was running in 5th his engine blew up.
