Asterisk Mark Report – Martinsville #1 2022
Martin Truex Jr. – This spring at Martinsville, Martin Truex Jr. was a top ten contender, but he finished an asterisk mark 22nd. In the race, Truex started 20th, was up to 13th on lap 290, but then during the final round of green flag pit stops right around lap 300 after his stop, Truex had a flat tire and had to come back to pit road which doomed him to his poor result.
Christopher Bell – This spring at Martinsville, Christopher Bell was poised to walk away with a good result, but his evening wasn’t incident free. In the race, Bell finished 4th in Stage #1, 9th in Stage #2, had a 9.6 average running position but then during the final round of green flag pit stops right around lap 300 while running around 12th, Bell was penalized for his crew going over the wall too soon which led to his 20th.
Kyle Larson – Kyle Larson was a top ten contender this spring, but he finished an asterisk mark 19th. During an extended green flag pit cycle while running in 9th (prior to the cycle starting), Larson was busted speeding on pit road. For much of the race prior to his problem, he typically ran within a few deviations of 10th. His Total Speed Ranking for the evening was the 8th best.
