The Low Tier – Phoenix
Cody Ware – At Phoenix, look for Cody Ware to be a high-twenties to low-thirties driver. In 4 of his 5 races in the desert he’s finished between 28th to 32nd, and in his one outlier he crashed and finished 36th. This spring, Ware finished 31st. For the season at shorter-flat tracks, Ware has a 33.2 average finish over the combined events.
Landon Cassill – This spring at Phoenix, Landon Cassill piloted the #77 which he’ll once again be driving on Sunday. In March, Cassill finished 30th and ranked 33rd in terms of Total Speed Rankings. At Richmond #2, the one other shorter-flat track race he competed this year, Cassill also finished 30th.
Garrett Smithley – Garrett Smithley will be fielding the #15 from Rick Ware Racing at Phoenix, and I think he has a legitimate shot to challenge BJ McLeod for fielding the slowest car on the track. At Phoenix, McLeod is 6 for 6 at finishing 31st or worse. This spring when he also piloted the #15, Smithley finished 32nd and ranked 35th in terms of Total Speed Rankings. In 2021, Smithley’s results were 31st and 34th.
BJ McLeod – At Phoenix, BJ McLeod is 3 for 3 at finishing between 27th to 33rd, and his average finish is 30th. I don’t know why we shouldn’t expect more of the same from him this weekend. This spring in the desert, McLeod finished 33rd and ranked 36th for Total Speed Rankings. Last year at Phoenix, McLeod had results of 27th and 30th. This year at shorter-flat tracks, McLeod ranks 36th in terms of Total Speed Rankings.
