The track conditions were hot and slick.
No practice was held for Atlanta.

Atlanta #2 Race Notes
Ross Chastain who started in 2nd in the inside row, led the opening lap.
On lap 2, Chase Elliott took the lead and then led 1 lap.
On lap 3, Ross Chastain took firm control of the lead and then led 19 laps.
On lap 3, Kyle Larson had slid back to 12th after starting in 3rd. His car was loose.

While battling for 2nd on lap 18, it was mentioned that Denny Hamlin’s #11 looked to be perhaps the best handling car. Hamlin started the race in 16th.

On lap 21 while running in 6th, it was mentioned that Alex Bowman brought a car that was made to handle in the slick conditions which had a lot of downforce. In the spring, the #48 was trimmed out for speed.
William Byron liked how his car drove on lap 22. His car had a similar setup as to what he raced in the spring. He was running around 9th at the time.
Kyle Larson was back to 23rd on lap 24. His car wasn’t to his liking.
At the completion of lap 25, the competition caution came out.
Notable: During the competition caution, Kyle Larson’s team popped up his hood to make major changes. Larson’s car was said to be extremely loose.

- Christopher Bell was temporarily blocked in his stall.
- Bubba Wallace missed his pit stall and had to backup.
- Kyle Larson had a long stop.
- Daniel Suarez had to backup which caused a slow stop.
- Martin Truex Jr. was caught speeding.
- Austin Cindric had a long stop.

Tyler Reddick won the race off pit road during the Stage #1 caution.
Martin Truex Jr. took two tires during the Stage #1 caution which got him near the front.

On lap 70, Martin Truex Jr. took the lead.
On lap 72 while running in the mid 20’s, Erik Jones brushed the wall.

Big: On lap 78, a multi-car accident ensued. Drivers involved were Chris Buescher, Ty Dillon and BJ McLeod. All three of them were running around 30th at the time. McLeod’s afternoon was over. Chris Buescher described it as a “Decent Hit” and it dropped him off the lead lap.
Mixed pit strategy happened following the accident on lap 78. Lots of the field came in, much of the field stayed out.

Big: On lap 91, Martin Truex Jr. who was running in 3rd at the time spun at the front of the pack. Drivers also collected in it were Ross Chastain (driver who gave him a bad bump), Joey Logano, Kyle Larson, Austin Dillon, Michael McDowell and Kyle Busch. Many of the cars had a good amount of damage but this accident only marked the end of the race for Austin Dillon. This dropped Larson down a lap, Logano down 2 for repairs.
Mixed pit strategy ensued following the “Big One.”

Big: On lap 107, Chris Buescher had a flat tire and careened into the wall which brought out a caution. Buescher was running around the low twenties just prior to that. This marked the end of Buescher’s race.

Notable: On lap 137, Chase Briscoe spun in turn 2. It was a single car spin. Briscoe was running in 14th at the time. His tire shredding caused some damage.
A lot of cars came to pit road during the Briscoe caution.

Big: Alex Bowman had a flat tire on lap 159, got into the wall hard and spun which marked the end of Stage #2. Bowman was running in 5th at the time. This marked the end of the race for Bowman.

During the Stage #2 caution, Tyler Reddick overshot his pit box and had to backup which caused him to have a slow stop.
