Asterisk Mark Report – Richmond #2 2022
Ross Chastain – Last summer at Richmond, Ross Chastain showed speed early, but then his afternoon went south following Stage #1. In the race, Chastain started 2nd, led the first 80 laps, won Stage #1 but then early in Stage #2 on lap 91 while running in 4th, Chastain radioed his team and said something was going on with his right rear. From that point on, his afternoon slowly went south and when the checkered flag waved, Chastain finished 18th. Chastain’s 19th best Total Speed Ranking tells that story with his speed over the segments being 3rd, 23rd, 27th and then 23rd.
Richmond Spring 2022 Asterisk Mark Report
Chase Briscoe – Chase Briscoe was a top five contender last summer at Richmond, but he finished an asterisk mark 23rd. On lap 308, Briscoe had a “Ford Random Fire” which led to an unexpected pit stop. That was during an extended green flag pit cycle, but position wise he was in 6th, minus the cars ahead of him who still needed to pit. In terms of speed stats, Briscoe had the 9th best Total Speed Ranking.
Tyler Reddick – Last summer at Richmond, Tyler Reddick finished 31st but I’m not going to read into that result at all. On lap 4 while running around 24th, Tyler Reddick spun. He didn’t hit anything, but after that you could basically stick a fork in him. Perhaps he damaged some underbody components or something, but his car was junk after that.
