Kansas NASCAR Practice Notes
Group A Driver Notes
William Byron – Five minutes into practice during his 2nd lap, Byron scrubbed the wall. The amount of damage he got didn’t look too concerning but it led to him missing quite a bit of practice. Later when he returned to the track Byron said, “Feels a lot better.” His crew chief then said, “Really good pace here.” Late in practiced he reported that he could feel the “tires slip” as the run goes on, balance feels neutral though.
Joey Logano – Shortly before the midpoint, Joey Logano jumped to the top of the speed chart. There were concerns he wasn’t happy with his car. Logano only ran 6 laps but he ended the session #1. Logano said he didn’t learn as much as he wanted to. Logano said he had speed, but it wasn’t driving perfect.
Martin Truex Jr. – The #19 was said to not have a lot of fall off from Clint Bowyer. Bowyer said Truex was sporty. Bowyer said he was impressed by Truex. Truex had the best 15-lap average in Group A. Truex thought the #19 was perhaps better than the #11.
Daniel Suarez – The #99 looked solid on the stopwatch. Suarez ran throughout all the 20 minutes. He found speed on the track when he searched around for it. Suarez was the only driver who did a +20 lap run in Group A. Suarez said his car was good. He said it was a good start.
