The Low Tier – Charlotte
Zane Smith – Zane Smith will be back in the #38 at Charlotte, which is a bummer for Todd Gilliland. That said, even Gilliland didn’t do much in his car at high-speed 1.5-mile tracks, so I would have low expectations for Smith. At Kansas a few weeks back, Gilliland finished 24th, and I can’t imagine Zane Smith having any more upside than that unless the attrition rate gets extreme.
JJ Yeley – In the Charlotte Coca Cola 600, JJ Yeley will be piloting the Rick Ware Racing #15. I would just pencil him in for a high-twenties and back finish and call it good. That said, he recently finished 23rd at Kansas so he does have a little upside over that range. At Las Vegas, the other high-speed 1.5-mile track he competed at this year he finished 33rd. At Charlotte, Yeley hasn’t competed since 2020 and his results that year were 34th and 37th.
BJ McLeod – At Charlotte just like every week, BJ McLeod will be fielding the least competitive car on the track. He finished 19th when “Mega Mayhem” ensued last year but will you be counting on that again to that level? This year at high-speed 1.5-mile tracks, McLeod has only competed at Las Vegas and he finished 32nd there.
