The Low Tier – Gateway
JJ Yeley – At Gateway, JJ Yeley will be driving the #51. I think Yeley has sneaky upside as a super low tier driver. Since Bristol Dirt minus Martinsville where he crashed, Yeley has a 19.6 average finish. Realistically, I would pencil him in as a high 20’s driver. It’s hard to count on attrition as a boost. This spring at Richmond, Yeley finished 36th after getting wrecked by Denny Hamlin. Last year, Yeley didn’t race at Gateway.
Gray Gaulding – Gray Gaulding will be driving the Rick Ware Racing #15 at Gateway. Gaulding lacks experience, and I can’t say I would feel comfortable relying on him to go the distance in his Next Gen debut. Gaulding has competed in ten Xfinity series races this year and his average finish is 26.9. In the Truck series, Gaulding made a start here back in 2014 and that year he finished 20th.
BJ McLeod – At Gateway, BJ McLeod will be fielding the least competitive car on the track, but he’ll be picking up spots thru attrition. This year at shorter-flat tracks, McLeod has only competed at Phoenix, and he finished 36th there courtesy of “Fuel Pump” issues on lap 50. Last year at Gateway, McLeod finished 30th and had a 33.3 average running position. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, he ranked last.
