Chicago Steet Course Fantasy NASCAR Top Tier Elite Picks
AJ Allmendinger – AJ Allmendinger is an elite road course racer who’ll be tough to beat at Chicago. There’s a lot of road course winners in the field, but Allmendinger stands alone as being a previous “Street Course” winner (among full-time drivers in the field). I think that might just give him a little bit of an edge this weekend. In the Next Gen at road courses, Allmendinger has performed at a high-level. Since 2022 his Total Speed Ranking ranks as the 4th best and since Road America last summer minus COTA this spring where he looked great but crashed, Allmendinger has a 5.6 average finish. At Sonoma just a few weeks back which has historically been his worst road course, Allmendinger ran great and finished 6th. In 2023 at road courses in terms of Total Speed Rankings between the combined events, Allmendinger ranks #1.
Chase Elliott – Chase Elliott is a super-elite road course racer who’ll be tough to beat at Chicago. On this track type, Elliott’s a 7-time winner, and three of those wins have come in debuting races at new road courses since 2020 (Daytona RC, COTA and Road America), so he’s obviously a quick learner at serpentine tracks. The only road course he didn’t win that made its debut over that stretch was Indy RC, and he finished a not too shabby 4th there. His 1.8 average finish over those four new road courses since 2020 is off the charts. Another attribute you also have to like about Elliott is his speed at road courses. In the Next Gen at road courses, Elliott has the best Total Speed Ranking over the combined events and he hasn’t once ranked outside the top ten. I’ll note, Elliott hasn’t won at a road course since Road America 2021, but he hasn’t dropped off that much. Elliott likely would’ve won at the Charlotte Roval and Watkins Glen last year if there weren’t late cautions and since 2022 on this track type minus misleading results at Indy RC and the Charlotte Roval, his average finish is 4.6 and he’s 5 for 5 at finishing between 2nd to 8th. At Sonoma a few weeks back, which is the only road course he’s competed at this year, Elliott finished 5th.
Ross Chastain – At Chicago if “Road Rage Ross Chastain” shows up, I think he’ll be a factor. I think this is a race where drivers will need to rough up their competition and not drive politely, and who’s better at that than Ross Chastain. Fresh off his Nashville win, I think he’ll be driving with a lot of confidence so you better believe he’ll be dangerous. This year at road courses, Chastain has been one of the better performers. He’s one of just 3 drivers who are 2 for 2 at finishing in the top ten and his average finish is 7.0, with him finishing 4th at COTA and then 10th at Sonoma. Overall at road courses in the Next Gen, Chastain has the 7th best Total Speed Ranking and minus a three-race slump in 2022 between Indy RC and the Charlotte Roval, Chastain has finished in the top ten every race and has a 5.2 average finish.
