Chicago Street NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Corey LaJoie – At road courses, Corey LaJoie hasn’t been as bad as you’re likely thinking and in 4 of the last 5 races on this track type he’s finished between 11th to 20th. This year at road courses, LaJoie has results of 11th (COTA) and 20th (Sonoma). I’ll note, prior to his recent OK-streak on this track type, things were very bad for him at road courses. At Chicago, I would just view LaJoie as about a 20th place driver and hope for the best.
Justin Haley – At Chicago, I would look for Justin Haley to likely finish around 20th, unless things get goofy which may very well happen. This year at road courses, Haley has results of 19th (COTA) and 21st (Sonoma) on his resume, so finishing right around that mark just feels right. Going even further back, Haley’s finished between 18th to 24th in 4 of the last 6 races on this track type.
Shane van Gisbergen – At Chicago, supercar road course ringer, Shane van Gisbergen will be piloting the Trackhouse #91 entry. This will be a competitive car, and if you have the itch to pick a road course ringer, I don’t see anything wrong with picking him but at the end of the day, its best to just brace yourself for a mid-pack result. Gisbergen comes along with the typical “Never driven a Cup car question marks”, but racing at Chicago on a street course will help even the playing field, perhaps as never before on this track type.
