The Low Tier – Atlanta
Cole Custer – At Atlanta, Cole Custer will be returning to Cup to pilot the Rick Ware Racing #51. There’s potential this might be a tuned-up Rick Ware Racing entry with assistance from SHR, but it might not be. That said, attrition/the draft are great equalizers at superspeedways so he might just sneak in a good result. Last year at Atlanta in Cup, Cole Custer finished 9th in the summer and then crashed in the spring (34th). This spring in the Xfinity series at Atlanta, Custer finished 12th.
JJ Yeley – JJ Yeley has a knack for sneaking in better-than-expected results, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he sneaks in another this weekend in the #15. This spring at Atlanta in his only race on the new surface, Yeley finished 26th. At Talladega, the most recent superspeedway visited, Yeley finished 11th this spring!
BJ McLeod – BJ McLeod is back at Atlanta but I don’t know how much upside he brings. Sure, the draft/attrition are great equalizers, but he currently has back-to-back 36th’s at Atlanta due to crashes. In spring 2022 in his one incident free Atlanta race, McLeod finished 19th.
