New Hampshire Fantasy NASCAR Mid Pack Predictions
Austin Dillon
New Hampshire Fantasy Spin – Austin Dillon hasn’t run well at New Hampshire and in 5 of the last 6 races he’s finished 17th or worse, so make sure you have low expectations this weekend. In 4 of those 6 races, Dillon’s finished between 17th to 23rd, and on Sunday, I think it’s reasonable to expect him to finish around that mark again. This year at shorter-flat tracks, Dillon hasn’t run well but he did look sporty at Gateway a few weeks back before wrecking (was in 11th shortly before his demise).
New Hampshire Track History – Last year, Dillon had an eventful afternoon and finished 23rd. In the race, Dillon had a beating and banging battle with Keselowski under caution, hit Kevin Harvick on pit road and to top it off he made an unexpected pit stop for a flat tire on lap 274 while running around 20th. In addition to finishing 23rd, Dillon had a 24.5 average running position and had the 21st best Total Speed Ranking. In 2021, Dillon finished 17th, had a 19.7 average running position, the 18th best Total Speed Ranking and was the 15th Fastest Driver Late In A Run. In 2020, Dillon finished 7th in Stage #2, 13th overall, had a 16.8 average running position and ranked as the 9th Fastest Driver Late In A Run. It was a solid showing from the #3 team.
Erik Jones
New Hampshire Fantasy Spin – At New Hampshire, you’ll want to close your eyes when you look at Erik Jones’s recent results. Over the last three, he’s 3 for 3 at finishing between 19th to 24th and has a 20.6 average finish. On Sunday, I would expect more of the same. This year at shorter-flat tracks, Jones hasn’t run well and in his two incident free races his results are 18th (Gateway) and 21st (Phoenix). In terms of Total Speed Rankings over the combined shorter-flat track races in 2023, Jones ranks 26th.
New Hampshire Track History – Last year, Jones started 22nd, had a 19.5 average running position and then finished 19th. In terms of Total Speed Rankings, Jones ranked 21st. In 2021, Jones had a similar mid-pack performance. In the race, Jones finished 19th and had a 20.4 average running position. Additionally, Jones was the 21st Fastest Driver Late In A Run and his Total Speed Ranking was the 22nd best.
Todd Gilliland
New Hampshire Fantasy Spin – At New Hampshire, Todd Gilliland could potentially sneak in a good result, but I feel a lot more comfortable penciling him in for a 25th, which is exactly where he finished last year. At the last two shorter-flat tracks visited this year, Gilliland has back-to-back 15th’s, but those results don’t match his performance.
New Hampshire Track History – Last year at New Hampshire in his only Cup start at the “Magic Mile”, Todd Gilliland finished 25th, had a 27.5 average running position and had the 32nd best Total Speed Ranking.
