Richmond NASCAR Practice Notes
Group A Practice Notes
General Practice Note: Group A had faster track conditions for practice.
William Byron – The #24 unloaded fast and was setting the quick lap times early in Group A. William Byron got slightly into the wall in practice (not a concern). The #24 had really good speed over a long run. Following practice, Byron’s crew chief said, “Good consistent laps there.” Byron said his car was good in an interview, it just needs some fine tuning. Byron ranked #1 overall in terms of 5,10 and 15 lap averages.
Denny Hamlin – Hamlin sat out of practice for the first 5 minutes, so he didn’t set a blazing overall fast lap time. Hamlin looked solid on the track, and he wasn’t hustling his car. The #11 had good long run speed. Hamlin had the 3rd best 25-lap average.
Aric Almirola – The #10 had really good long run speed. Almirola ran a lot of laps so he should have a good feel for his car. Almirola ranked #1 for 25 and 30 lap averages.
Bubba Wallace – The #23 was fast. Wallace seems to like his car this weekend. Wallace had the 3rd best 20-lap average.
Chris Buescher – The #17 looked to have solid speed in practice.
