Bubba Wallace who won the pole selected to start in the outside lane. Wallace led the opening 22 laps.

Chase Elliott was falling back early. Elliott started in 13th and was back to 18th on lap 10. Elliott was also having radio problems at the time.
At the completion of lap 20, the competition caution came out.

Mixed pit strategy ensued during the competition caution. Probably about a third of the field stayed out.
Big: During the restart following the competition caution a “Big One” ensued. JJ Yeley stayed out and then was slow during the restart which caused the crash. Drivers collected in the carnage were Kyle Busch, Austin Cindric, Aric Almirola, Michael McDowell, Harrison Burton, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Ty Gibbs, JJ Yeley and Todd Gilliland.
In a post DNF interview, Kyle Busch said his car was really good. He was running in 3rd prior to pitting for the competition caution.

Ty Gibbs had a slow pit stop around lap 85. It was 19 seconds. He was in 6th when he came in.
Notable: Ross Chastain got a pit penalty on lap 93 while running in 3rd for having an uncontrolled tire. It was a drive thru penalty.

Big: On lap 98, Cole Custer had a flat tire/fire which brought out a caution. This was during an extended pit cycle, so the running order was quite messy now. Lots of cars had to take the wave around.
Big: Tyler Reddick was mentioned to be having engine problems during the Cole Custer caution. Reddick said he was smelling smoke. His race was over shortly after that.
Notable: Chase Elliot had a slow pit stop during the Cole Custer caution.
