Indianapolis Road Course Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings
Kevin Harvick
Indy Fantasy Spin – I don’t think Kevin Harvick has taken a liking to Indy RC, so I wouldn’t be too bullish on him, but he has been pretty solid at road courses. At Indy RC, Harvick was quite bad last year, and just slightly less bad in 2021. This year at road courses, Harvick has results of 11th (Sonoma), 13th (COTA) and 29th (Chicago, anything but incident free). Overall in the Next Gen at road courses minus Indy RC 2022 and Chicago 2023, Harvick has finished in the top 13 every race and has a 9.0 average finish.
Indy Track History – Last year at Indy RC, Kevin Harvick had a disastrous performance and finished 33rd. The #4 never ran well, had a spin and then later in the race on lap 64 while running back in 22nd he crashed which marked the end of his race. In the race, Harvick’s Total Speed Ranking ranked 25th, and at no point did he look competitive. In 2021, Harvick finished 14th, but it really wasn’t that great of a performance for him. In the race, Harvick had a 20.9 average running position, the 16th best Total Speed Ranking and was running in 15th before all the late mass mayhem ensued.
Ty Gibbs
Indy Fantasy Spin – In year #2 at Indy RC, Ty Gibbs might just contend for a top ten, and at worst I think he’s a teens performer unless something bad happens to him. This year at road courses over the combined events, Gibbs has the 7th best Track Type Total Speed Ranking and a 12.0 average finish.
Indy Track History – Last year at Indy RC early in his Cup career, Gibbs finished 17th. Personally, I wouldn’t read into that race too much since it was so early in his career. In the race, Gibbs had a 20.5 average running position and was running in 21st with 7 to go before late mass mayhem ensued.
Alex Bowman
Indy Fantasy Spin – Alex Bowman is a fairly solid road course racer but he’s also incredibly hard to trust at the moment based of the #48’s form. This year at road courses, Bowman has gotten worse in each new race. In 2023 on this track type, Bowman finished 3rd at COTA, 15th at Sonoma and then had a really bad afternoon at Chicago and finished 37th. Over Bowman’s last nine road course races minus Chicago and Indy RC 2022, Bowman has a 10.3 average finish and he’s had a result in the top 16 every race. On Sunday, I’m going to view Bowman as a risky low double-digit to mid-teens driver.
Indy Track History – Indy RC hasn’t been friendly to Bowman. Last year, Bowman had contact with Harvick twice. The first time led to an unexpected pit stop, and the second on lap 64 marked the end of his race leading to a 32nd. I’ll note, at no point did Bowman run well and “Performance Wise” he looked like a 20’s performer. I’ll note, he did rank 15th in terms of Total Speed Rankings though. In 2021, Bowman finished 17th, but take note he was a low double-digit performer. In the race, Bowman was running in 11th with 14 laps to go before the late mayhem really started to ensue and his Total Speed Ranking was the 11th best. Bowman was caught up in late carnage in the overtime wreck #1. At that time, Bowman was running in 12th.
