Charlotte Roval Fantasy NASCAR Front Runner Rankings

Ty Gibbs
Charlotte Roval Fantasy Spin – At the Charlotte Roval, look for Ty Gibbs to perform at a high-level and be a top ten contender. This year at road courses over the combined races, Gibbs has the 4th best average finish (10.6) and the 5th best Track Type Total Speed Ranking. What I really like about Gibbs though is how strong he’s looked in the last two. At Watkins Glen he finished 5th (2nd best Total Speed Ranking) and at Indy RC he finished 12th (9th best Total Speed Ranking), despite getting spun and no help from cautions.
Charlotte Roval Track History – Last year at the Charlotte Roval in a pre-rookie start, Ty Gibbs had a 15.9 average running position, the 16th best Total Speed Ranking and then finished 22nd when the checkered flag waved. On lap 103 before late wildness kicked into gear, Gibbs was running in 19th. I’ll note, Gibbs was up to 12th on lap 110, but then on the last lap he spun. Last year in the Xfinity series at the Roval, Gibbs led 24 laps and finished 2nd.

Martin Truex Jr.
Charlotte Roval Fantasy Spin – Martin Truex Jr. has been solid at the Charlotte Roval, and let’s not forget, Truex was just one turn away from winning the inaugural race back in 2018. This year at road courses, Truex has performed at a high-level and since Sonoma minus Chicago, Truex has a 4.6 average finish and he’s had results of 1st (Sonoma), 7th (Indy RC) and 6th (Watkins Glen). In terms of Track Type Total Speed Rankings minus Chicago, Truex ranks 6th. I’ll note, the recent form of the #19 scares me and he might just not show up again this weekend.
Charlotte Roval Track History – Martin Truex Jr. has been fairly solid at the Charlotte Roval. In 2022, Truex finished 17th, had a 15.6 average running position and had the 14th best Total Speed Ranking. On lap 103 before late chaos ensued, Truex was running in 14th. In 2021, Truex finished a clunker 29th. In the race, Truex went for Stage points and as a result he finished 4th in Stage #1, 8th in Stage #2 but that’s not optimal in terms of getting a good end result. That had Truex poorly positioned for the final Stage back in traffic where he never climbed any higher than the low-teens. With 14 to go Truex was up to 13th but then I’m pretty certain he spun or something, because with 8 to go he was back in 30th. Then with 4 to go, he had a run-in with Joey Hand and spun. In 2020, Truex finished 4th in Stage #1, 7th overall, had a 10.5 average running position and was tied for having the 5th best Total Speed Ranking. In 2019, Truex started in the back, messed up in the chicane twice (stop and go penalty on the track) but he still managed to finish 7th when the checkered flag waved. In 2018, Truex had a great performance and would’ve won if Johnson didn’t take him out when the #48 wheel hopped right at the end. That collision took away a certain victory and relegated him to a 14th place finish.

Ross Chastain
Charlotte Roval Fantasy Spin – At the Charlotte Roval, Ross Chastain will need to show up and race hard. Chastain doesn’t have a single good finish to his name here and he’s currently below the cutline. This year at road courses, Chastain started the season with back-to-back top tens but over the last three races he’s had results of 22nd, 17th and 18th.
Charlotte Roval Track History – If you’re a Ross Chastain fan, close your eyes when you look at his track record since he’s 4 for 4 at finishing 22nd or worse. Last year, Ross Chastain didn’t run great, but he also wasn’t 37th place bad. In the race, Chastain won Stage #2, was in 27th on lap 77 but then shortly after that on lap 84 he got into a wall which knocked out his rear alignment which sent him to the garage for repair, dooming him to his poor finish. In terms of Total speed Rankings, Chastain ranked 27th. I’ll note in the two segments prior to his problem, Chastain had speed rankings of 16th and 15th. In 2021 in the #42, Chastain finished 23rd, had a 20.1 average running position and had the 24th best Total Speed Ranking. In the two races prior to that in lesser equipment, Chastain had results of 22nd (2019) and 24th (2018).
